So Back on the Bike!

Here’s the oddity of the whole argument of car versus bicycle: when you’re on a bike you hate all cars, and when you’re driving a car you hate all bikes.

Simple…

But I use the word “hate” here to freely.  It’s not really a love-hate thing.  It’s a human thing.  Like get out of my way thing.  I matter you don’t thing.

But ponder this – yesterday I’m tooling around on the Elby (that’s the bike),  approaching one of those cross streets used to make time in the neighborhood and

BAM!   Close, but no major collision.

In this case it was a car coming from my right that did a rolling stop…talk about OXYMORONIC.

My finger was up as one hand squished the brakes (rear thank goodness) and after some Kneviling there was no collision.

MONDAY – this morning, bright eyed and bushied something (who ever came up with bushy tailed anyway?) I head to the office at my usual hour which I can’t divulge here and pull up to the STOP SIGN on Kipling.

BAM!   Another close one!  But this time it’s a PEDESTRIAN with their face nearly glued to my passenger door.

WTF???

I was turning right, signaled, stopped, thought I did everything correctly.  Just like I had 5,000 times before.

and here was my bumper in line with the STOP SIGN…

But now 4 feet PAST the sidewalk.   Where this person was walking.  From my RIGHT.  But I looked left.

So here I am confessing my sins, realizing that I am as guilty as the next guy, like the bike courier running lights is just as guilty, as the pedestrian (not the one I didn’t hit) is for jaywalking.

So I can’t point any fingers.

And the MORAL of the story????

LOOK BOTH WAYS!

My grandma was right all these years!

No, it’s really about thinking, using your brain, and a little bit of common courtesy.
